South Holland District Council leader Nick Worth says ‘nothing off the table’ as calls made for free parking in Spalding to boost market

A council leader says ‘nothing is off the table’ after calls were made to offer free car parking to attract more shoppers to a town centre.

South Holland district councillor James Le Sage wants to see the authority offering two or three hour free parking at its sites in Spalding in order to boost the fortunes of the market and shops.

Council leader Nick Worth had previously told this newspaper that he was looking to reward shoppers who spend £10 or more at the town market by offering free parking on their next visit.

The leader has made the revival of markets a key priority for his new administration - and believes they are vital to enticing shoppers back to our high streets.

Speaking at last week’s full council meeting Coun Le Sage said: “Would it not be more suitable to have perhaps two hour free parking or three hour free parking? Are we looking at the viability offree parking to totally kick-start the market?”

Coun Worth said that he would be looking at any option and ‘nothing is off the table’.

He said: “I am not going to rule anything out. We are going to look at budgets and how it works.”
