Spalding 'Men United' in song

The notion of singing in a big auditorium in front of 800 people would be a daunting prospect for anyone, but several men from the Spalding area who had never sung before or had little singing experience took up the challenge.

Taking themselves out of their comfort zone they joined with others from all over the region to audition as part of the Men United in Song 2019 Choir.

The aim of the choir was to bring attention to and fund research into a cure for prostate cancer, the most common form of cancer in men in the UK.

The choir rehearsed at John Mansfield Campus in Peterborough for two hours a week for 10 weeks in readiness for a concert at The Cresset Theatre, Peterborough on Saturday, May 11, in front of a packed house of more than 800 people, including many family members and friends.

Also on the bill were the Peterborough Male Voice Choir and Peterborough Youth Choir, altogether singing a total of 22 songs.

A spokesman for the Men United in Song choir said: "The evening proved very successful and was enjoyed by all.

"The hardest part was having to learn nine songs word for word as well as rehearsing, but it showed that with dedication and teamwork, anything is possible."

Currently the amount raised online for the event is nearing £3500, with the final figure expected to be announced in a couple of weeks.
