‘Nuisance’ trees cut down at Kirton War Memorial

Two trees have been cut down after they were found to be ‘causing a nuisance’ at a war memorial.

The alders have been felled after an application by Kirton Parish Council was approved.

The trees were placed inside the memorial garden in the centre of the village, and their roots had been affecting the pavement within the Kirton War Memorial Garden.

“It is not felt that the alders provide a significant public amenity value, considering that they are self-set and positioned behind more prominent trees,” the Boston Borough Council planning officer’s report stated.

“Their roots are causing a nuisance and affecting the paving of the memorial garden.

“It is felt that the proposed felling of the two alders would not result in an adverse impact upon the amenity, character or appearance of the conservation area.”

The work to fell the trees has already been carried out.
