Moulton councillor calls for South Holland District Council to learn lessons from Moulton Chapel ‘ski slope’ site
Calls have been made for planners to ‘up their game’ after builders were able to construct a raised ‘ski slope’ development.
Moulton parish councillor Lawrence Wakefield has, for more than a year been a strong objector to the raised levels built by Allison Homes at its Chapel Gate development in Moulton Chapel.
Work had started on the site in April last year to construct the 86-homes and entrance road to the site, which is off Roman Road, and South Holland District Council’s building inspector in August.
Coun Wakefield said the parish council had been ‘fobbed off when it reported issues with the Chapel Gate developement to the district council in June last year.
He said: “I feel that the planning officers and the building inspector need to up their game and keep more of an eye on the developers as they let them do as they like.
“This could have been avoided if they had taken more notice.”
“If people on the ground have a genuine concern it should be investigated straight away and not in three or four months time.”
Earlier this month, councillors passed new plans that will see the levels reduced.
We had approached South Holland District Council to see if an investigation would be conducted into how this development was built so high in the first place.
We also asked if any lessons had been learned from this and if they could offer any assurances in the future that residents’ concerns would be listened to.
They told us that the relevant information was included in the report to the planning committee and in the presentation to members at the meeting. We also approached portfolio holder Coun Henry Bingham.
