Moulton Seas End event at Naylor Flowers was a scorcher

More than 1,200 people basked in the glorious sunshine at a special open farm event.

Naylor Flowers, in Moulton Seas End, played host to a wide variety of stalls and attractions to celebrate British flowers, while also raising funds for the Holbeach Community Larder and Cafe.

Acts including Spalding Community Choir and Kirton Brass Band entertained the crowds, while Moulton Bulb Co. showed off its Spalding Flower Parade float – the onion carriage – at Sunday’s event.

Youngsters had the chance to take a ride on some pedal tractors, tackling a blow up obstacle course or planting some seeds at the event, which is part of a nationwide initiative by LEAF (Linking Environment and Farmers).

Jennie Bradley of Naylors said: “Our aim was to get as many people in farming as we could.

“This event helped us reach people who are not just farmers and give them the opportunity to see what the industry is like. I think we definitely ticked that box.

“The last time we did this was in 2016 and with this year being the 75th anniversary of Naylors we thought it was a great thing to do, particularly as there aren’t many open farm events which happen locally.”

Throughout the day there were flower arranging workshops for people of all ages, rides on tractors and trailers plus several display stands to peruse.

Boxes of Hope, a Holbeach-based charitable project to support the people of Ukraine, was also in attendance to hold a raffle.

While it was free entry, donations were encouraged for the nearby cause.

“We had roughly 1,200 people come along and between seven to eight hundred people enjoyed the tractor and trailer rides,” Jennie said.

“We had more people than we thought and I’m so pleased that so many people came.

“In donations from the flower arranging workshops we’re raised just over £1,000 which is brilliant.

“If there’s anytime to support a foodbank, it’s not when more people than ever are using them. As we don’t grow food produce we felt that this was a good chance to show some support.

“It was really nice to get the community together.”
