‘Bigger and better’ art exhibition to take place at The Sessions House in Spalding

Organisers hope a ‘bigger and better’ exhibition will highlight talent in the area – as more than 30 artists gear up to showcase their work.

Following the success of previous events which have seen more than 300 visitors attend over the course of a weekend, The Sessions House in Sheep Market, Spalding, is hosting an art exhibition on Saturday, February 22 and Sunday, February 23.

Abstract artist Joey Lowe, of Spalding, believes the town lacks facilities for independent creators to display their artwork and wants to change that. He said: “It’s a shame we don’t have a space specific for art galleries.

“I think it serves a purpose and there is definitely a need for it.

“If the council were to say there is an empty building which would make a good space for an art gallery or exhibition, I’d be more than happy to organise and host those sort of events.

“The town does have some bigger art organisations who do a lot of good stuff, but there isn’t really places for independent artists. I hope the art exhibition allows them to promote their work as I enjoy that aspect of it.”

The art exhibition will take place between 6pm and 11pm on Saturday and 10am to 3pm on the Sunday.

Visitors can expect to see 30 artists offering a range of mediums such as watercolour paintings, abstract artists, graffiti work, photography, collages, sketches and a handful of modern art.

Joey added: “We saw more than 300 people attend our previous event which is incredible and this year we have gone bigger and better.

“We’ve got more artists, more art and a broader eclectic mix.

“I’d like to highlight my thanks to Erika and Andrew of The Sessions House because without their support and continued help, these events wouldn’t happen.”

Erika Yao, of The Sessions House, said: “We're proud to offer our venue free of charge to the artists.

“We're passionate about fostering a thriving arts scene in our community and believe that it’s needed as a way of bringing the community together and enriching our lives through art.

“If other organisations have an event in mind and are looking for a venue. We'd be happy to sponsor our venue and discuss how we can help.”

The event is free for artists and visitors to attend.
