Sutton St Edmund widow: 'Why would anyone attack my home?'

An elderly woman who had a paint-like substance thrown onto her driveway in an apparent act of vandalism has no idea of a motive.

The 83-year-old widow, who lives in Guanockgate Road in Sutton St Edmund, discovered the unsightly mess when she got up on Thursday morning.

For the lady, who lives alone, it brought back bad memories of a spate of similar incidents two years ago when paint was sloshed up her home, covering the front door, window and wall.

Evidence of the cream paint attack on the wall remains as it would not come off.

The latest incident, which has been reported to police, has left the woman feeling vulnerable and worrying if her home will be targeted again.

She said: “I’d looked out of my bedroom window at 1.20am and all I saw then was a little rabbit.

“Then when I got up in the morning and drew back the curtains I thought ‘whatever is that in the driveway?’”.

It turned out to be a brown rubbery liquid. She believes the pot must have been hurled from the road because it made a deep impression on the gravel and all the contents spilt out.

The lady, whose CCTV did not capture the incident, said: “I lost my husband 16 years ago, all I’ve got is my garden.

“I live on my own and don’t associate with a lot of people. I was born in Sutton St Edmund but I know very few people because most of them are newbies.

“I’ve got no idea why anyone would want to do this. I don’t need this at my time of life, I just want it to stop.

“But I’m left thinking when are they going to do this to me again?”

The lady refused to accept that it might have been a case of mistaken identity or accidental.

“I think it’s been done on purpose,” she said. “I just wish if whoever did this has got a vendetta against me - and I’m 100 per cent sure no one could have - that they would come and talk to me.

“Somebody knows who did this.”

The previous incidents started on August 13, 2017 - the pensioner kept a note in her diary - and led to other materials such as two mattresses and a builder’s bag being dumped on her property.
