Pinchbeck residents back palliative care charity
‘Overwhelmed’ volunteers celebrated their hard work after donating more than £3,000 to a Lincolnshire-based charity.
Generous members of Pinchbeck Community Hub and Library gathered together to hand over a cheque of £3264 to St Barnabas Hospice.
Throughout the summer, volunteers from the area held different fundraisers such as the Celebration of Life event, a 25 mile sponsored dog walk, cake sales and more.
Earlier in the year, volunteers also helped raise over £7,000 for Macmillan, Marie Curie and St Barnabas Hospice – meaning the total from the different fundraising events hosted by Pinchbeck Library and Community Hub has topped £10,000.
Members of the Community Hub and Library chose to donate the money raised from fundraisers held in September, to go towards a charity that works within South Holland.
Fiona Mallock-Rear, fundraising officer at St Barnabas Hospice, she said: “I feel so grateful. We appreciate the collective efforts made by everyone, as that is what the charity is all about.
“The money will go towards the local area to help with our patients at home care, supporting them to die peacefully in their own space, coffee mornings and our well being centre in Boston.
“Everything we offer is free, so having this donation will keep us going and also raise awareness for what we do in the area.”
Chris Taylor, who volunteers at Pinchbeck Library, said: “The whole community came together to support it really well. We want to thank the whole community who provided amazing raffle prizes and cakes for the cake sale.
“We are just so grateful and we couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help and support – It was really nice to be a part of.”
Maureen Harley also helped out at the fundraising events. She said: “I feel overwhelmed and emotional – I just can’t get over the generosity of people. To be able to raise that much from such a small community is just incredible.”
Organiser and volunteer Lisa Atkinson said: “I am just so over the moon and amazed by the generosity of everyone - every penny raised has gone towards St Barnabas.”
