Moulton Park to be open to public in spring
Villagers will soon be able to fully enjoy Moulton Park now the site has been purchased by a charitable foundation.
The John and Maureen Biggadike Foundation has now officially purchased the 20-acre site from South Holland District Council - with the aim of opening it to the whole community in the spring.
Moulton Park had been purchased by the district council in 2016 but remained widely unused but now it will provide a much needed green space for the wider community.
A public meeting will be organised shortly to give Moulton residents the opportunity to share their ideas and priorities for the park.
“The trustees are delighted that, at long last, Moulton Park is now owned by the charity and can finally be used by the residents of the village” said Biggadike Foundation trustee Steven Adcock.
“This will provide vital open space, and the addition of a play area for local children is long overdue.”
The Biggadike Foundation, a charity established from the estate of John Biggadike, the last Miller of Moulton Windmill, bought the site to ensure the land will be preserved for future generations.
With its established trees and diverse wildlife, the park will provide a tranquil space for walking, relaxation, and exercise while fostering a stronger sense of community.
Moulton Parish Council are creating a much-needed children’s play area within the park - something that families have needed for some time.
The foundation will be entrusting the park’s management to a separate charity, which will be dedicated to the site’s upkeep and future development.
A public meeting will be held soon, inviting Moulton residents to share their ideas and priorities for how the park should be used and managed.
Although some planning conditions must still be fulfilled, it is anticipated that Moulton Park will officially open in late spring.
The foundation received planning permission last year to change the use of agricultural park into the recreational park.
Coun Henry Bingham, the district council’s assets and strategic planning, is pleased that the sale has progressed.
He said: “It is fantastic news. We have worked with a great bunch of people to do something fantastic for the whole area.”
