Fees could be added to Spalding Castle Sports Complex and Gore Lane car parks

People living in Spalding town centre and using the Castle Sports Complex could soon be facing parking charges.

South Holland District Council's cabinet will be considering whether to increase parking charges in the town during their next meeting on Tuesday.

The council is also considering adding charges to the Castle Sports Complex (dryside) as well as Gore Lane, which could also be resurfaced.

Cabinet members are faced with four options of: increasing tariffs in line with the maximum tariff; average tariff; tapered over four years or not increasing charges at all.

If councillors went with option 2 of the average tariff, it is anticipated this could increase income from £244,580 a year to £349,580.

Currently car parking prices in Victoria Street car park range from 60p for an hour and £1.50 for 24 hours. This could go up,under option 2, to £1 for an hour and £5 for 24 hours.

Gore Lane and the Castle Sports Centre car park charges could be £1 for an hour and £2.50 for four. Season tickets in Spalding could go from £260 to £460.

Lincolnshire County Council has taken over the monitoring and enforcement of the car parks.
