Sun comes out for village fair
The sun came out for The Deeping St Nicholas Community Trust Committee's first village fair on Saturday.
Attractions included the bar run by The Olde Bridge at Crowland, the hog roast by Grasmere and bouncy castles.
There were stalls run by local businesses and by organisations such as the WI, Guide Dogs for the Blind and the Royal British Legion.
Visitors were also entertained by music from Graham James, Simon Lee and duo Charlie and Dilara.
There was also a constant stream of visitors to the Community Trust Committee (CTC) stand where members were on hand to answer questions about the plans for a village hall, which has been proposed for the site on St Nicholas Way where the fete was held.
Committee chair Deborah Croyle said: "We couldn’t have asked for better weather; people took advantage of the occasion to chill out and enjoy themselves in the sun.
"There was so much goodwill generated by the event and we’ve had absolutely loads of positive feedback on Facebook, by email and in person. The day wasn’t even done when people started asking if we’d do it again next year.
"Our main intentions were to raise awareness of the plans and to engage with the local community, although thanks to the generosity of visitors, we ended up making a surplus of around £900, which will go towards kitting out the hall, when it’s built, with all those essentials like tables and chairs."
The committee is also running a race night at The Olde Bridge in November which will keep the hall plans firmly in the forefront of residents’ minds while they plan next year’s calendar of events.
