Holbeach United Services Club hosted a night out for the girls and two good causes.

The phrase "less is more" took on new meaning at a charity ladies' night in Holbeach on Saturday.

Male strippers and buff waiters were two of the surprise packages at Holbeach United Services Club where friends Kristine Smith and Natasha Boyton put on the event which raised about £1,600.

Natasha said: "This was the second year that we organised a ladies' night and it went absolutely brilliantly."

Kristine added: "We sold about 110 tickets before the event and some people bought them on the door.

"There were a few people came that we didn't know, including someone from Peterborough, and a lot of them said they would come again next year."

One of the causes to benefit will be the Royal Marines Charity, in recognition of ex-serviceman Sam Fowler who runs Holbeach-based Royals Gym, in Fleet Street, and who helped out on the night shared.

The other charity nominated by Kristine and Natasha was Holbeach in Bloom whose volunteers won Gold at the East Midlands in Bloom Awards last week.

Kristine said: "We chose the Royal Marines Charity because Sam told us a bit about how it helps both serving and retired Royal Marines, along with their families.

"But we were looking for a local charity to support as well and so we chose Holbeach in Bloom."

Natasha said: "We're pleased with the amount raised and we're ever so grateful to Stephen Johnson who did a lot to promote the event by printing posters and flyers for the town centre, along with putting it out on social media."

Sam said: "The event was run brilliantly by Kristine and Natasha who have both done Holbeach proud with the effort they put in to make it happen.

"I’m thrilled that they chose the Royal Marines Charity to be part of their fundraiser because it’s a charity that's very close to my heart and they do amazing things, both for serving and veteran marines, as well as their families.

"Also, I’d like to thank Craig Candler and Edward Allen (both Royals Gym members) who gave up their evening to help me with the topless waitering on the night."
