Piles of rubbish is making Long Sutton grot spot even worse says councillor

Piles of rubbish are making a well-known grotspot even more of an eyesore, a councillor has said.

Chairman of Long Sutton Parish Council John Clarey has hit out at the rubbish bags which have been left close to The Bull Hotel in Long Sutton, which have also been highlighted by a resident.

The derelict hotel – which once played host to royalty – has stood empty for decades and blights the entrance of the pretty town – prompting numerous calls for the site to be sorted once and for all.

Coun Clarey said: “The rubbish down Bull Lane has been there continuously.

“It’s a disgrace and furthers the eyesore that we have already down that lane.

“I don’t know whether they have permission for leaving it on the land which belongs to the owners of the Bull Hotel.

“It’s not only on the Bull owners land but also encroaching onto the highway.

A resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, has also raised concerns about the rubbish which he fears will attract vermin.

South Holland District Council, which is responsible for dealing with fly-tipping, has confirmed that it is aware of the problem but has not been able to issue a fine.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm that our team promptly removed the fly-tip of black bags following the report.

“However, due to the lack of evidence at the scene and the anonymous nature of the report, we were unable to issue a fixed penalty notice to the offender/s.

“We urge all residents to report fly-tipping via our website at www.sholland.gov.uk/reportit providing as much information as possible to assist in potential prosecution."
