Plan lodged to add more homes to Sutton Bridge development

Plans to build nearly 130 new homes in Sutton Bridge have been submitted to district planners.

Developers say more than half of the properties proposed for land close to Nightingale Way, Granville Terrace, Withington Street and Chestnut Terrace have already been given the go-ahead in earlier schemes.

And they claim the need for new housing justifies development of land outside the village's established boundary.

The latest outline scheme has been submitted to South Holland District Council by the Bedford-based firm, Loyd Homes Ltd.

If approved, it would allow for 129 properties, of which 32 are classed as affordable.

Documents submitted as part of the application say permission has already been granted for 76 of the proposed properties in three separate applications. One of them was approved on appeal.

They added: "The current planning application provides a logical and well designed comprehensive development for the northern edge of Sutton Bridge."

The developer also argued that, while the site would be classed as open countryside, local planning policies would allow such a scheme to proceed "where it can be demonstrated that it meets the sustainable development needs of the area in terms of economic, community or environmental benefits.

"The application clearly demonstrates that the residential development meets the requirements of 'sustainable development.’

"Sutton Bridge is a highly sustainable location and identified in the Local Plan as a main service centre. The applicant respectfully requests that planning permission be granted."

A decision on the new application is currently expected in November.
