Bid for sea of tulips in Spalding to welcome visitors to 2023 Flower Parade
Plans to line the route into Spalding with blooms ahead of the revived Flower Parade are coming together.
Stephen Timewell is hoping a sea of tulips will amaze visitors as they arrive in the town from all over the country to watch the event next May.
After putting out a plea on the parade’s Facebook page, growers P.S and J.E Ward, from Terrington St Clements, and Taylors Bulbs from Holbeach offered to make this dream possible.
Steve said: “What a way it will be to welcome our visitors. There will be coaches coming from all over the UK and they’ll arrive to an area which is just full of colour.
“We’ve been really lucky and both growers have offered lots of different varieties.
“They have also said that we can have as many as we need which is brilliant.”
Steve is now hoping to enter in to talks with Lincolnshire County Council’s highways department for permission.
He said: “Highways own the verges so I will need permission from them to do it.
“It would also be great if we could use the planters in Spalding town centre. There would be no cost to the taxpayer, we would just need permission to use them and plant them up.
“I just think it will look amazing.
“I’m over the moon. It’s another success for the parade.”
Steve is already on the hunt for several volunteers to plant the bulbs so that they are in the ground in time.
