Plans for 171 new homes at Seagate Road and Wisbech Road in Long Sutton given outline approval
Plans to build 171 new homes on town farmland have been granted outline approval.
Loosegate Developments Ltd want to build the properties on land between Seagate Road and Wisbech Road in Long Sutton.
The site is part of a housing application in the South East Lincolnshire Local Plan. An earlier proposal aimed to build approximately 215 dwellings, but this number has been reduced so work can begin at an earlier stage.
A number of concerns have been raised by residents and councillors regarding the plans.
Coun Jack Tyrrell, who represents Long Sutton on the district and county councils, is worried that a road connecting both streets will be used by drivers as a shortcut to a petrol station.
There were also fears over traffic congestion and the estate road becoming a ‘rat run’.
However, the likes of Anglian Water and Lincolnshire County Council Highways voiced no intentions of restricting permission being granted.
Two parking spaces will be provided for dwellings with up to three bedrooms, and three spaces for those with four or more.
Nineteen house types have been proposed for the site, combining detached, semi-detached, short terraces and cluster houses to offer ‘sufficient variety’.
Forty-five of them will provide affordable housing.
Planning documents say that ‘issues such as infrastructure capacity, number of amenities located in the village and increase in pollution from new residents were considered through the plan making process’.
Long Sutton Parish Council has requested a share of Section 106 funding which will be made available through the application.
Councillors have outlined a programme of works amounting to approximately £236,000.
It could contribute to a new and enhanced skate park, resurfacing works at Cinder Ash Park’s main car park, new park benches at the town cemetery, and grass reinforcement grids to the side of the cemetery to provide additional off-road parking.
