Plans approved for sportshall, cafe, bar, gym and soft play as part of Boston United's South Stand development in Wyberton
Plans for a village sportshall - complete with bar, cafe and gym - have been given the thumbs up.
The development will also include a dance studio and soft play area, complete with party room.
The sportshall - which will form part of Boston United’s Jakemans Community Stadium complex in Wyberton - will double up as the South Stand at the Pilgrims’ ground, providing terracing and seating for away supporters.
Plans submitted earlier this month to Boston Borough Council by Chestnut Homes - the company owned by United chairman David Newton - included a number of changes to previous designs.
Proposed bleachers have been removed from the four-court badminton sportshall, with a soft play area replacing a climbing wall, listed in original plans.
The dance studio will now be moved to the first floor, where it will be situated alongside a gym and viewing gallery.
This will provide space for a bar to be incorporated into designs, along with a cafe.
“The current bar, now called Ellenders, can be very busy on matchdays which is frustrating for fans,” the application states.
“Therefore we have included a second bar in the South Stand with associated cellar and WC facilities.
“We have seen a demand for hot drinks and food from the users of the adjacent 3G all-weather pitch, therefore we have increased the seating capacity of that area and provided a larger servery.
“The servery will also serve the soft play area and party room.”
There will also be changing facilities that can be used by users of the sports hall and the adjacent 3G pitch, which is used by the local community as well as the club’s junior and older age sections.
Seating has been added to the South Stand of the stadium to allow segregation for visiting fans.
Away supporters wishing to sit currently share the West Stand with Boston fans.
The revised capacity for the South Stand will now be 630, creating an overall stadium capacity of 5,103.
The Pilgrims first put in planning permission for the stadium and Quadrant housing development - situated on the other side of the A16 - eight years ago.
The club have been playing in their new home, which currently has three completed sides, since December 2020.
Boston Borough Council approved the amended plans as long as they are ‘carried out in strict accordance with the application received May 9, 2014 and in accordance with the associated (updated) plans’.
