Spalding Town Forum outlines Christmas events for Ayscoughfee and The Crescent
While we might still be in ‘summer’ a series of festive events are being planned to ensure that a town has a proper Christmas celebration.
Late night Christmas shopping in The Crescent in Spalding with a festive celebration in Ayscoughfee Hall and Gardens were announced at the last Spalding Town Forum meeting.
Calls have been made to boost festivities in The Crescent after traders in the area felt let down last December as there were no Christmas lights to decorate one of the town’s main shopping areas.
Forum chairman Coun Rob Gibson said Christmas events were in the early planning stages including late night shopping in The Crescent on Friday, December 6, from 5pm to noon.
He said: “We are looking to close off the road and shops would like to do a late night shopping night. We are looking to support that area of the town.
“I know some of the shops I have spoken to want to be involved and other traders in The Crescent are keen to get involved.”
He also announced plans for a festive celebration in Ayscoughfee Hall and Gardens on Saturday, December 21, which will run from 5pm to 8pm.
Coun Gibson said: “Bring the children and have a walk around Ayscoughfee. There might be some Christmas lights and if you go towards the green and cafe are there might be some Christmas food and drinks and brass bands.
“Come and start Christmas properly with a celebration, bring the children and sing the night away.”
The forum is also planning Ayscoughfest on July 27 from noon to 8pm.
Coun Mark Le Sage reported that most of the bands have been booked and selected. He also stated that there will be old style fairground rides and some face painting.
He said: “I have had a meeting with the cafe at Ayscoughfee on provision for food and hot drinks etc while everyone enjoys a lovely sunny day.”
