Play area plan for Moulton Park is rejected

A project to build a play area in Moulton has been hit by a further delay - as the plans do not fit the rectangle shape allotted.

Moulton Parish Council was told by South Holland district councillor Anthony Casson that its proposed play area in Moulton Park had been rejected.

Coun Casson also warned that the district’s offer of an acre of land in the park could be withdrawn.

The district council purchased the 23 acre park in 2016 for £302,000 and has offered the acre for a peppercorn rent for 50 years.

Coun Casson, who is leading on the project, told Tuesday’s meeting that he had taken the plan to the district’s asset committee meeting.

He said: “It was rejected on the grounds that it was outside the area that had been offered. It was outside of the area on three sides out of four.

“If you don’t soon get a plan inside the area offered you will have the chance of the offer being taken away from you. I have been reluctant to say this. It is shame that Moulton village does not have a play area and I would sincerely like it to have one.”

Parish council chairman Andrew Wolf said the architect Influence had designed the scheme and had worked on plans from the district council.

He said: “It was in an acre but outside of the rectangle. What we will do is make sure that it is within the rectangle.

“Everyone wants to move on with this. We need to move on and we need to stop the bickering and get on with it.

“If we have to get it in a rectangle then I am sure Influence can get it within a rectangle but it is still within the acre at the end of the day.”

It was agreed that Coun James Kirk would liaise with the architect to progress the project.

The plans, presented to the June parish meeting, included a cableway, carousel, springers, swings, agility trail and sea saw along with a ‘wizard’s hideaway’.
