Jerry Green Dog Rescue looking for help to rescue Dogue de Bordeaux puppies
Jerry Green Dog Rescue's latest Man's Best Friend column discusses a harrowing arrival at the charity's doors.
This week has been an exceptionally tough one for our North and South Lincolnshire Centre teams.
Five Dogue de Bordeaux puppies have come into our care in an emergency situation.
When they arrived, we were shocked and heartbroken but also incredibly relieved that they were about to get the care they so desperately needed.
Any later, would it have been too late to save them? We don’t know, but what we do know is that they are all severely malnourished and suffering from acute worm infestation.
Their tummies are incredibly bloated from the condition being left untreated. Just a couple more weeks left without medical intervention could have been fatal for them.
Our puppies are seventeen weeks old. Puppies that age would normally be described as boundless balls of energy, eager to absorb the world around them.
It’s that unfiltered, innocent, gusto for life that makes us humans giddy with excitement, right? Unfortunately, we cannot use the above description for Arthur, Merlin, Copper, Amber and Rusty. They are subdued, worried and sad.
It was clear the puppies not only needed their medical needs listened to, but also their emotional.
Three are living at our South Lincolnshire Centre and two at our North Lincolnshire Centre.
We feel there is still a way to go before we can feel confident that a bright future lies ahead for them all, but we assure you that we will do everything in our power to make that a possibility.
Their veterinary treatment will be costly. They will need a vast amount of our care and support in order to get them ready for a new home and a better life. Can you help us?
If you are in a position to support us, please consider donating, so we can be there for dogs like Arthur, Merlin, Copper, Amber and Rusty that so desperately need us. We will of course keep you all updated on their progress.

We do not post this plight to shame their previous owners, but to raise awareness that we are here to help.
There are countless reasons why an owner may not be able to keep on top of their dog’s welfare, the majority of which are not malicious or through a lack of love. But please do not hesitate to ask for help if you need it. We will be here. We will not judge you. We will help.
We know these photos are upsetting, and we much prefer sharing the happy stories with you, but we need to get the message across that we will always be there for dogs and families in need.
Can you give Betty a home?
Betty is a very laid back greyhound, but contrary to popular belief also quite lazy!
She will happily meet new people, and is a very polite when making friends, she doesn’t jump up and would rather have a cocktail sausage and ear rubs.
She would be a good office dog and for sharing some curly fries in a pub garden with. She likes to stay very close and walks very well on lead, she doesn’t pull at all!
She doesn’t require long walks and is content with a lap on the village and a play in the garden. Betty is looking for a home where her new family are around all day initially to help her settle into her new home environment and help her with house training then her leaving hours can be increased. She will need a garden with a 5ft fence.
All things around the home like TVs and sofas will be novel to Betty so she will require some patience while she learns all about home comforts and finds her spot next to the cushions, this shouldn’t take her long as you can tell by her photo.
She will need to be the only pet in the home, however she would like some walking friends.
She is very polite and well-mannered when walking with other dogs. She is easy going and will make a good companion to just watch TV with and spend time in the garden. She can live with children 11 years plus.
