Police appeal after motorists using Wyberton road closed after collision between HGV and car

Motorists are being asked not to try to navigate a closed road, which has been shut following a collision between an HGV and a car.

The incident took place just before 10pm last night (June 12) on the Boardsides at Wyberton Fen and left an oil slick around 50m long.

However, vehicles have attempted to use the closed road this morning.

The collision took place by the Fountain Plants business between Hubberts Bridge and Swineshead Bridge, where the A1121 meets the A17.

A Lincolnshire Police statement said: “The A17 side of Boardsides, Wyberton Fen, just after Fountain Plant, remains closed this morning due to the clean up needed with oil spills on the road.

“This oil slick is around 50m long and people have tried driving around this; please adhere to the closure signs.”

Last night an initial police statement said: “We are on scene at a serious collision between an HGV and a car on the A17 at Boardsides, Wyberton Fen, reported at 9.53pm.

“Road closures are being put in place, please avoid the area.

“We don't know the extent of the damage or injuries at this time and will update when we can.”
