Police called to deal with drunk passenger on bus at Crowland

Police were called when a bus driver refused to go any further with a drunk passenger causing problems on board.

Jordon Smyth (27) tried to get on the bus with the wrong ticket and went upstairs in the double decker without paying a fare.

The driver then heard a commotion on the top deck before a member of the public came down to pay Smyth’s fare in an effort to calm the situation.

Boston Magistrates’ Court heard last Wednesday that Smyth then went downstairs to stand near the driver while the bus was moving.

“Every time the driver braked Mr Smyth’s head banged on a rail and he became more aggressive to the driver,” said prosecutor Shelley Wilson.

“Numerous times he was asked to move away and sit down.”

Eventually the bus driver stopped in Postland Road, Crowland, and police attended.

Smyth, who is homeless, was a nuisance to them too and threatened to urinate in the police vehicle.

He admitted being drunk and disorderly in public, a charge for which he was also convicted last September.

In mitigation, he said: “I’m sorry for what happened.

“I’ve got a bit of a problem with alcohol and I’m trying to get help with it from Aspire.”

The court was told the defendant had an outstanding debt to the courts of more than £1,700.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £26 victim surcharge.

There was no order for costs.
