Raising funds for Spalding's Garth School pupils

The family of a young woman with Down's Syndrome are hosting a fundraiser for the school that had a huge impact on her life.

Fuad Rahman, from the Chameli Tandoori Restaurant in Holbeach, says his sister, Eidna Begum (19) loves Spalding's Garth School to bits as it's the place where she grew from childhood to adulthood and made so many friends.

On July 10, the restaurant is hosting staff from the school to say a big thank you to them for the nurturing role they have played in Eidna's life and the life of her family.

There will be seats to spare that night in the restaurant and it's hoped people who support the work of Garth School will go along to enjoy a meal and raise money for its pupils.

Eidna, who has learning difficulties, leaves Garth at the end of term and will switch to a three day a week daily living skills course at Boston College in September.

"She loves to socialise and meet new people," says Fuad, who hopes to find Eidna a place at a day centre where she can enjoy the company of others.

Leaving Garth will be a wrench for Eidna.

Fuad says: "It has made a big impact on her life.

"She grew up in that school from her childhood to her adulthood. She loves the school to bits and the friends she's made."

Fuad and his older sister, Fahmeda Begum, jointly look after Eidna and can't wait to entertain the Garth staff.

"The family want to say a big thank you to the whole staff of the school," said Fuad.

They already have "quite a few reservations" for the fundraiser but there are seats to spare at a modest £15 a head and diners can enjoy a starter, a main course and rice or a naan.

The St John's Street restaurant has a track record of helping good causes.

"We have been here since 1989, coming up to nearly 30 years now," said Fuad. "We like to give something back to the community because they have been helping us with our business."
