Moulton Chapel Tuliptime Parade will return this weekend

Organisers of a popular 48 year-old parade say ‘annoying’ roadworks have made a slight change to the route – but reassured visitors that the event will still be a fun filled day for the family.

The Moulton Chapel TulipTime Parade will be taking place on Sunday, May 4 and is set to feature a range of entertainment, food, competitions and lots more this bank holiday weekend between 1pm and 5.30pm.

Due to two-way signals on Roman Road, which were installed at the beginning of April, this year’s parade will be shorter.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire County Council said: "Because of complex engineering for these drainage works, we are not able to remove the traffic management for the parade.

"However, we will be reduce the temporary traffic lights timings to as short a length as is practicable, as well as placing no-waiting cones to the exits from the traffic lights to allow the passage of vehicles. In addition, excavations will be made safe with cones or road plates.

"The site will also be manned from 9am – 6pm to facilitate the movement of both pedestrians and traffic, and to monitor highway parking. We are doing all that we possibly can to limit the impact on the route."

One of the Moulton Chapel parade organisers said: “The roadworks have slightly changed the route which has been a bit annoying for us but visitors will be able to watch it like normal.

“I am excited for the parade. A lot of work and effort has gone into it by the small committee and we are looking for new members to help us in the future – I will be happy to have a rest once afterwards.”

The route will start at 3pm from Woodgate Road and travel along Roman Road, turning into Cekhira Avenue, before returning to Woodgate Road.

Families will still be able to admire the wonderful floats, walkers, vintage tractors, motorcars and decorated bicycles.

Celebrate the heritage of the Tulip industry at the event which will be centred around the community hall.

It is set to include a range of activities for the family such as a range of stalls to browse, free face painting for children, inflatables, crafts, open mic poetry reading, singing, samba drumming and live music to enjoy.

A scarecrow competition will be held in St James’ churchyard.
