Popular Spalding water taxi is set to return next year
A popular town service is set to re-launch next season following a year-long break.
The joint partners for the Spalding Water Taxi, Broadgate Homes and South Holland District Council, say they are looking forward to its return in the spring.
Following the damage caused by storm Henk earlier in the year, the River Welland was drained to help recover the Cowbit and Crowland Wash – which was left underwater.
As a result of this, Spalding Water Taxi did not operate this year.
Nick Bossley of Broadgate Homes said: ”The Spalding Water Taxi has been going for many years and Broadgate Homes and South Holland District Council collectively support it and want to continue it.
“Following the issues surrounding water levels last year, we’re very much looking forward to re-launching the boats and starting the new season off in a positive fashion.
“It will be supporting the other initiatives which are taking place in the town to improve the town centre and the amenities and services around it, and we see the water taxi as an important part of that.”
Coun Gary Taylor added: “It was missed this year. The plan for it to run again next year will be part of enhancing the riverside and the connectivity from Spalding town centre and Springfields.”
A date has not yet been set for its arrival.
