Team from Holbeach farm will be taking on 100km trek to raise money for charity
A team from Holbeach farm A H Worth is preparing to complete a gruelling 100km trek in just 30 hours all in aid of charity.
The Potato Lovers - made up of procurement director Ben Worth, account director Katie Adlard and procurement managers Richard Wattam and Lil Wall – are all set to put their best feet forward at the weekend as they take on the ultimate endurance Trailwalker 100km.
The group, who will be supported by colleagues Andrea Mould and Rachel Palmer during their non-stop journey across the South Downs, are raising funds for Oxfam and The Ghurkha Welfare Trust.
“Between us we decided that we needed a challenge and Richard found this beauty for us,” says Lil, “We’re going to be walking 100km – 62 miles – non-stop within 30 hours.
“There’ll be no sleep during the night, but we will have our lovely support ladies on hand to keep us fed, watered, in dry clothes and new socks and keep our spirits up.
“We were due to do the trek last year, but unfortunately it was cancelled because of the pandemic.”
So far the group’s training has ranged from 5km lunch time walks to 50km efforts on the hottest days of the year.
It’s been tough going with team members enduring blisters, swollen fingers, rain, wind, cows, heat, aching limbs but Lil said there’s been a lot of laughs too.
The team has taken its name from A H Worth’s own brand of chipping potatoes, which are sold into wholesale markets.
For every bag sold between now and the end of the walk, a 10p donation is being made to the team’s charities, which AH Worth has said it will double.
Each of the teams taking part is hoping to raise £1,400 for the good causes, but The Potato Lovers are setting the bar higher and aiming to raise £1,400 each.
