Spalding Power Station set to produce more energy
Spalding Power Station is set to be allowed to substantially increase its energy output.
The West Marsh Road facility wants to up the amount of electricity it produces from ‘about 800MW’ to ‘up to 950MW’.
It will be able to generate the extra power thanks to an upgrade to its existing gas turbines.
No objections were raised to the proposals by South Holland District Council - with final say on the proposal resting with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Power station owners InterGen said the plans ensure the facility ‘remains competitive and delivers electricity with the lowest carbon emissions’ and allow them to deliver flexible and reliable power for the region.
The plans were lodged by DWD Property and Planning and serve to update the planning consent that was originally granted in 2000.
The power station began producing energy in 2004 and a £100 million expansion was completed in 2019.
