Spalding’s Monkshouse Primary School re-opens as academy

A town primary school has ‘closed’ and re-opened as an academy.

Monkshouse Primary School on Spalding’s Pennygate has joined the University of Lincoln Academy Trust.

The Ofsted website confirmed the school – which received a good rating following an inspection published last month – had closed on December 31, re-opening at Monkshouse Primary Academy.

“Under the Academies Act 2010, schools may apply to the Secretary of State to convert to academy status,” the academy conversion letter written by Ofsted’s National Director, Education Chris Russell explained.

“These schools are known as academy converters.

“On conversion to academy status, the existing school closes and a new school opens in its place.

“Although little may have changed, the academy converter is a new legal entity.”

The letter added: “It is important to note that, as the academy converter is a new school.”

Other education centres under the University of Lincoln Academy Trust are University Academy Holbeach, University Academy Long Sutton, Gosberton House Academy, Holbeach Primary Academy and Holbeach Bank Academy.
