Cracks in Spalding cycle path set to be repaired
Large cracks in a cycle path are set to be repaired over the next few days - after being left for months.
Concerns were first raised over the cycle path, which runs behind Double Street, Spalding, last August.
A cyclist, who asked not to be named, feared that someone riding their bike could plunge into the River Welland as a result of the cracks.
He said the cracks are deep enough to trap a tyre.
The cyclist had kept an eye on the path but noticed that works hadn’t been carried out despite reporting the issue to Lincolnshire County Council’s Highways department.
He said: “If they aren’t going to fix it, then why?
“I guess if it was a crack big enough to fit a vehicle wheel into on a road, it would be fixed as a matter of urgency.”
However, council bosses have now confirmed that a work crew will now be sent out to repair the ‘defects’.
A spokesman said: “We have assessed the issue and identified the two areas where the gap has widened on the part of the route that we are responsible for.
“A work crew will be sent out and these defects will be repaired. We have planned this to happen within the next week although it’s worth noting that the dates could shift if we run into unforeseen complications.”
