Spalding councillors to protest cuts to 37 bus to Peterborough
A protest letter will be sent to transport bosses to complain about cuts made to a key bus service for the area.
Members of Spalding Town Forum last week heard - as reported by this paper - that the 37 Stagecoach bus that runs from Spalding to Peterborough will be reduced to every two hours at the end of the month.
The service currently runs hourly - and Coun Christine Lawton said that this is a ‘lifeline’ for many people in Spalding and Crowland.
She called on chairman Roger Gambba-Jones to make bosses know that the cuts are not supported here and to ask that they reconsider.
Coun Lawton said: “The quickest way to drive down a service is to cut bus services in half.
“Just as a protest we should make our voice heard and say this is dreadful.”
Coun Gambba-Jones said he would try to get some usage figures from the county council to support the case.
Inflation, rising bills and ‘post pandemic travel patterns’ have all been blamed for the cuts.
