Kirton’s Black Bull pub to extend its premises – but conditions made regarding appearance
A village pub has been given permission to extend its premises.
Kirton’s Black Bull can convert a storage area into an additional part of its existing lounge/bar area, as it bids to ‘improve the dining facilities’.
However, certain conditions were regarding appearance have been imposed.
Plans passed by Boston Borough Council also include the installation of new ground-floor windows and a door, the erection of a single-storey, flat-roofed entrance porch and a 1.1m-high painted timber picket fence within the site.
During the consultation process Heritage Lincolnshire warned special attention must be given to preserving the appearance and character of the Kirton conservation area.

It intially indicated that ‘bringing a currently vacant and tired part of the building into use’ was ‘deemed to be highly positive’, but also put forward a number of suggestions regarding appearance.
Following the receipt of new drawings and information showing the door in the new porch with a segmental arch and indicating that the porch will be in exposed brickwork, Heritage Lincolnshire indicated it was ‘happy’ with the proposals.
When awarding planning permission, the council added ‘a sample or specification of the proposed timber panelling shall be submitted to, and approved in writing by, the Local Planning Authority’ and that the walls of the entrance porch must be constructed in imperial bricks and weathered Cheshire pre-war bricks.

Applicant Stonegate said they hope the plans will help the Black Bull maintain its place at the heart of the community.
“The aim is to improve the dining facilities by converting the existing barn/store area to the premises creating more covers,” the design and access statement submitted with the application said.
“The aim is to create a friendly environment for the all local community and guests to enjoy, whilst remaining sympathetic to the listing of the building and the conservation area the pub lies within.”
