Public offered chance to have say on South Holland District Council’s proposed budget and council tax rise

Residents will have the chance to share their thoughts on an authority’s proposed budget – which includes a council tax rise.

South Holland District Council is inviting you to have your say via a public consultation.

It is proposing a council tax rise of 3.09 per cent, which equates to £6.03 per year or 12p per week for a Band D property.

The budget also proposes to increase capital investment in council assets to help generate new income streams, reduce running costs and help deliver services more efficiently.

Just 8p in every £1 of council tax collect goes to South Holland District Council, and more than half of that is the levy required to pay to the local internal drainage boards.

"Each year by law, the council must set a balanced budget and this year it has been one of the most challenging,” said Coun Paul Redgate, portfolio holder for finance at South Holland District Council, said.

“Despite the challenges, the council's financial position means it is well places and able to take a considered approach to mitigating these exceptional challenges.

"We continue to work to develop new opportunities, efficiencies and income streams to support the council's revenue budget.

"As part of the process, it is important we hear the views of our residents and businesses to help inform our final decision at council in February.

"I'd encourage our residents and businesses to take time to read through our proposals and have their say as part of our consultation."

The consultation is available to complete online at www.sholland.gov.uk/budgetconsultation.

The closing date for responses is Friday, February 2, 2024.
