Bell in Pinchbeck up for sale for £1.2 million – one of seven South Holland pubs on the market
Seven pubs across South Holland have been put up for sale – including a derelict building with a £1 million pricetag – as people are urged to support the area’s establishments.
Chairman of the Fenland branch Nigel Woodburn and Stuart Brotherton, Spalding’s Pubwatch Co-ordinator, are calling on people across the area to come and use the district’s establishments.
One of the area’s most prominent grot spots – The Bell in Pinchbeck – is among a number of pubs and restaurants in the area which are currently listed for sale.
Mr Woodburn said that it it is important to keep local pubs going.
He said: “Please support village pubs. You don’t have to spend a large amount of money.”
Pubwatch co-ordinator Mr Brotherton said the industry is having a difficult time due to the squeeze on people’s pockets following Covid.
He said: “I think, where possible, folks ought to go out and support the local businesses. Perhaps spend a bit less and walk into town to save money.
“What we are experiencing at the moment I have never known in my entire life and I’m 65.”
The Horse and Groom in Holbeach is also up for sale as is the lease for Spalding pub Oscar’s.
The Bell has become an eyesore in the centre of Pinchbeck after standing empty for so many years but it is now up for sale for £1.2 million.
But according to the sales information, the site could have a gross development value of just under £4.5million after receiving planning permission.
The site has planning permission to create five apartments within the existing pub building while nine detached bungalows can be built on the land behind.
Coun James Avery, chairman of Pinchbeck Parish Council and South Holland District Council’s planning committee, said: “This building has been empty for some considerable time and, although we don't have many grot spots in Pinchbeck, this site is certainly one of them.
“I'm not necessarily surprised by the price tag being asked. After all, it's not unusual for owners/developers to gain planning consent, which adds value, and then sell a site on for someone else to develop. It would have been ideal for a speculator to develop The Bell only, without the additional bungalows to the rear, but we must be realistic about viability.”
Nick Bond is selling the lease for Oscar’s in Broad Street, Spalding, as he wants to focus on other things.
He has created the popular bar after transforming the site from offices before the pandemic. He said he was ready to open in March 2020 but restrictions delayed the opening until the following year.
Mr Bond, who has been a publican for 20 years, said: “The business is fine. I just want to do other things.”
The lease for Oscar’s is on the market for £150,000.
Another landlord is also hoping to try something different after placing the Horse and Groom in Holbeach on the market for £575,000.
Nick Williams has been running the pub for 19 years with his family.
He said: “We’ve decided that we would like to do something different.”
The other local pubs/establishments on the market are:
*Sergi’s in Francis Street, Spalding, £475,000
*The Duke of York in Gosberton Risegate, £425,000
*Crown Inn, Crowland, £275,000
*Old Black Lion, Gedney, £250,000
