Tyrrell's Farm in Cowbit and Firth Produce in Sutterton offering up pumpkin fun

Halloween high jinks is well underway in the area in the build up to October 31.

It may be little more than two weeks before the ghosts and ghouls come out to play, but you can beat them to the fun with plenty of local activities.

Pumpkin patches are sprouting up in the area, allowing you to enjoy a hands on approach to the spooky season.

Tyrrell’s Farm in Cowbit first introduced their pick-your-own patch last year and are once again welcoming the public to come along and have some fun.

“We have two fields of pumpkins of different shapes, sizes and colour,” William Tyrrell explained.

“We also have a selection of squashes and gourds.

“We also have some good photo opportunities and activities for children.”

Visitors can grab a selfie in front of themed backdrops, including straw bale sculptures.

Youngsters can also have a game of giant noughts and crosses using different coloured pumpkins.

“It’s good fun for all ages,” Mr Tyrrell added.

“Visitors can use a coloured wheelbarrow to go round our two fields to pick a pumpkin of their choice.

“It’s free entry, free parking, no need to book and no obligation to buy.”

Tyrrell’s pumpkin patch will be open this weekend and next (10am-4pm, Saturday and Sunday) plus the whole of half term - October 23 to October 30 - also from 10am-4pm.

If you want to carve your own pumpkin to ward off evil spirits this Halloween then you could also head to Sutterton - where Firth Produce is offering fun for all at their Kit Cat Lane patch.

Children’s games, spookily-themed crafts and potato catapults are among the entertainment.

“We wanted to give the place a real family feel,” said Annice Firth, who is growing pumpkins for just the second year with husband Sam.

Among the attractions are photo opportunities, face painting and free games such as smack the rat.

Ceramic painting for all budgets is also available, along with the potato catapult, where you can see how far you can fling a spud.

Local crafts will also be for sale, along with snacks from a US school bus.

The Sutterton patch opens this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 10am-3pm) and from October 22-30 (10am-3pm).

There will also be opportunities for local children with learning disabilities and care home residents to visit the patch.

Entry and parking is free.
