Sutton Bridge Parish Council organise fete with dog show, cake competition, King Charles III Trooping of Colour streaming and good turnout despite showers

A village fete had a decent turnout of visitors who enjoyed food stalls and music — despite the wet weather.

Organised by Sutton Bridge Parish Council, the event on Saturday included a streaming of the Trooping the Colour in the Curlew Centre marking the official birthday celebration of King Charles III.

The fete also paid tribute to D-Day in the aftermath of the 80th anniversary commemorations and among the activities at Memorial Park was a dog show, cake baking competition, indoor bar and table top sale.

Coun Sue McLaughlin said: “I would like to say that it was successful though we had a couple of hefty downpours.

“Luckily we had the marquee and we had a fairly good footfall in between the showers.

“The people that were there enjoyed themselves and the dog show did ever so well.”

The Bridge Buns and Roses WI group held a contest with winner Barbara Sewell scooping the trophy with her fruitcake.

Stalls included Long Sutton Men’s Shed in order to promote the work they do within the community.

Villagers could enjoy burgers and ice cream vans and the winner of the best in show was a Yorkshire Terrier with a smart red bow.

Coun McLaughlin added: “The idea we had to have the fete was connected to D-Day.

“As it wasn't a bank holiday we thought that a village fete might be something nice to do.

“Hayden Feetham organised the dog show and ran it alongside so it was nice to run the two things together.

“It certainly will be something that we would want to be done again.”
