Record crowd for Holbeach Food Festival
Holbeach Food Festival had a record crowd at its grand return over the weekend.
The popular event was cancelled in 2020, and food lovers were delighted to see it make a comeback to the social calendar.
South Holland District Council deputy leader Nick Worth, who spearheaded the organisation of the festival, was over the moon with its response.
“It was absolutely fantastic,” he said.
“The weather got better and better as the weekend went on, and the strongman competition clearly brought in a lot of people.
“We had just short of 1,500 people there on Saturday and a little bit more than that on the Sunday. So that’s a record turnout for us.
“All the stallholders did really well. A few of them ran out of stock on Saturday and had to get more for Sunday! It was really successful.
“I’d like to make a particular reference to the RAF Air Cadets from Holbeach, who were brilliant all weekend. They did all the litter-picking and all the tallying of people coming in and out, and were a credit to the Air Cadets. They were fantastic.
“Somebody who hadn’t been there before said to me it was a really nice atmosphere and felt like a really big village fete, and I think it did give that impression.
“It was an afternoon for people to catch up after over a year of Covid, and it was just lovely.”
Coun Worth said that judging by the queues, the Sweet Temptations stall was among the most popular – and that the seafood was his personal favourite.
