Long Sutton firm wants planning permission to continue recycling artificial grass

A Long Sutton business that recycles artificial grass and saves it from landfill has applied for planning permission to continue operating at its present site.

Astrological Products wants to carry on using its base of nearly three acres off Roman Bank where it turns artificial grass normally sent to landfill into a variety of products.

These include golf course bunkers, door mats, farm tracks, sand used by equestrian centres, noise absorption walls for shooting ranges and flood protection barriers.

A statement from the business said: "From a small start in 2012, initially creating hanging basket liners by using the waste product, the number of people employed by Astrological Products has grown from two to 12.

"The growing worldwide concern over climate change, single use plastics and recycling must only put more focus on the need to utilise the processes employed here in the town."

The site was originally a mushroom farm and then, in 2010, South Holland Parish Council allowed part of the site to be used to store classic motor vehicles.

Long Sutton Parish Council has raised concerns about HGVs using Roman Bank, Winters Lane and other roads in the Sutton Crosses area as a short cut to the A17 and A1101 Wisbech Road.
