Report outlines care homes deaths in Fleet, Gosberton, Holbeach, Holbeach St John's, Long Sutton, Pinchbeck, Quadring, Spalding and Sutton Bridge
The number of people who died with Covid-19 in care homes in our area has been revealed in a new official report.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) published the number of death notifications from individual homes between April 10 2020 and March 31 2021.
In South Holland the deaths outlined in the report were:
- Cedar Falls Care Home, Spalding - 14
- Ashwood Nursing Home, Spalding - 13
- St John’s Care Home, Spalding - 2
- Southernwood House, Spalding - 2
- The Bungalow Care Home, Spalding - 2
- OSJCT, Southfield House, Spalding - 5
- Brun Lea Care, Pinchbeck - 1
- Gosberton House Care Home, Gosberton - 6
- Stonehaven, Quadring - 1
- Beech Lodge Nursing Home, Holbeach St John’s - 5
- Mayfield Residential Home, Holbeach - 2
- Holbeach and East Elloe Hospital Trust, Holbeach - 2
- Capricorn Cottage, Fleet - 3
- The Bancroft Residential Home, Long Sutton - 4
- Nene Lodge Retirement Home, Sutton Bridge - 2
The CQC said the number of deaths did not indicate poor quality care - and that although all deaths reported were care home residents not all died or contracted Covid in a care home.
Chief inspector Kate Terroni said the CQC has ‘a duty to be transparent and to act in the public interest’ and wanted to give a ‘comprehensive picture’ of the Covid impact on care homes.
A spokesperson for Country Court Care, which owns Ashwood Nursing Home in Spalding, where 13 people died, said: "Our team at Ashwood Care & Nursing Home work tirelessly to care for our residents, as they would members of their own family.
"This is particularly so during the pandemic when they have done everything they can to keep residents safe, in very challenging times.
"Throughout this period we implemented significant Covid-prevention measures and our infection control procedures are some of the most stringent and proactive in the industry.
"Sadly, despite this, an outbreak occurred during the height of the pandemic that we were unable to prevent. Each passing was deeply felt by our team and our thoughts remain with families who have lost a loved one from coronavirus.
"As we continue to move forward through Covid, we remain extremely vigilant to its threat and are continuing to do everything we can to protect our residents and staff."
