Residents urged to submit ideas to improve Spalding signs
Residents are being urged to submit their designs for new town welcome signs – after concerns were raised with the state of the current ones.
District councillors Jan Whitbourn and Gary Taylor are calling for help from residents to send in their ideas to make the welcome sign in Spalding more appealing to visitors.
This issue was sparked after Coun Jan Whitbourn organised a recent campaign to get Spalding on the BBC Look North weather map.
Town residents were encouraged to say what they liked and disliked in the area and following on from the feedback form submissions, BBC Look North presenter and reporter, Gemma Dawson, and her camera crew, were shown around Spalding by Coun Whitbourn, in a bid to prove to viewers what we have to offer.
Alongside the positives there were areas of improvement that a number of residents said could improve the town further – one of these included to give visitors a warmer welcome.
Coun Whitbourn said: “My goal for 2024 is to be as positive as possible in an effort to bring as many visitors to Spalding as we can.
“When it was mentioned that our welcome to Spalding signage isn’t the strongest, I jumped in the car to have a look. I absolutely agree that we could do better, so I asked Councillor Taylor to see what we could do about it. “
Coun Taylor added: “It was important that residents were involved in designing the new welcome signs, rather than trying to impose the views of politicians or consultants.
“I’ve seen the feedback about the signage and immediately thought that this was something that Cllr. Whitbourn and I could do something about.
“I think it would be much better to get residents to send us their ideas, we could have some fun and vote on social media to try to select the best design.
