Spalding diners welcome return of South Holland Cafe which is run by The Red Lion
The return of a town centre cafe has been welcomed by diners.
People can once more enjoy a cuppa while enjoying the views of Spalding Market Place now that the South Holland Cafe is once again up and running.
The Red Lion Hotel, which took over the catering function at the Spalding theatre last year, opened up the cafe today (Tuesday) after receiving a number of requests.
Supervisor Ilona Durward was pleased with the response during the first morning.
She said: “It has gone really well - I’ve sold out of cream teas.
“People are really pleased to have the cafe back. There has been a lot of support for the cafe and cream teas.
“You can have a lovely view on market days and it would be nice to have local support.”
Jacket potatoes and toasted sandwiches are currently on the menu along with cakes, scones and other goodies.
Currently, the cafe will only be open on Market Days - Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.
Ilona said: “We are taking bookings for afternoon teas, baby showers, hen dos and other occasions.”
The Spalding pub has been running the catering function at the South Holland Centre when there are performances. This will also continue.
The cafe has been run by a number of caterers in recent years with Ayscoughfee Cafe and Moninna's Ristorante & Pizzeria taking it on for short periods but it is hoped that this will fill the gap left after the loss of the popular restaurant at Coneys.
