Spalding Festival set to return in 2023
A much-loved Spalding event is set to make its long-awaited return in 2023.
The Spalding Festival, which is organised by Spalding Round Table, has been postponed for three years due to the pandemic and a lack of sponsorship.
However, the organising committee has now secured funding and is ready to push forward for a 2023 event.
Next year’s festival set to take place in May, as usual - just a few weeks after the new Spalding Flower Parade is due to be held.
Matt Clark, a member of Spalding Round Table, says next year’s event is going to be the biggest yet.
He said: “We are hoping that with Flower Parade returning on the first weekend of May, and our well-established event on the last weekend, that working with local businesses and stake holders we can encourage a month of festivals in the town.
“This would not only contribute to the charitable means of the organisation, but help to put Spalding on the tourist map too.”
The last event saw more than 5,000 people visit the Castle Sports Complex in Spalding to enjoy plenty of music, food and drink.
The festival has raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes since it first began in 2016.
The money raised at the event goes towards good causes in the area, with an average of between £20,000 and £30,000 collected each year.
Now that the two headline sponsors, - Bakkavor and Ark Property Centre - have been secured, the organising committee is looking for other businesses to get involved, not just in sponsoring the event, but also the beer and cider barrels as usual.
He said: "We are grateful to South Holland District Council for their stance on allowing the festival to grow and removing some restrictions on the use of the land which we occupy. This means we will have more of everything - stages, bars food vendors and other entertainment. We are hoping to touch on 10,000 attendees next year."
It is hoped that even more people will attend next year’s event with more than 100 different barrels of beer, a cider bar and gin bar on offer, plus street food and some great acts on the bill too
The committee is now hoping to release the first batch of tickets before the end of the year. It will be held between Friday, May 26 and Sunday, May 28, 2023 at the Castle Sports.
