South Holland and the Deepings MP Sir John Hayes calls for Rishi Sunak to keep pensions triple lock

MP Sir John Hayes wants to maintain the triple lock pension - saying the public 'deserve a decent deal'.

During a Parliamentary debate on the matter of the state pension’s triple lock last week, Sir John strongly defended maintaining the promised state pension triple lock in line with inflation, average wage increases or 2.5% - whichever is highest.

Speaking in Parliament, Sir John, who represents South Holland and the Deepings, said: “I simply say... that if the Government were to propose breaking that promise, they would not have my support, and they know that, by the way.

“I would stand by the triple lock.”

Speaking after, Sir John added: “Our pensioners, after a lifetimes work, deserve a decent deal.

“Knowing that the state pension is going to maintain its value, irrespective of inflation, gives older people the chance to plan for the future.”
