Drag Queen Bingo Night with Miss 24 Carrot and Lashaunda Lashes at WI Hall Holbeach

If you fancy a night of bouncy balls then this risqué event could be your ‘ cup of tea- number three’.

A Drag Queen Bingo Night will be taking place at the WI Hall in Holbeach on Saturday, April 26, and promises a night of naughty fun with cash prizes up for grabs.

Numbers won’t be called by ‘two fat ladies’ at this event but glamorous drag queens, Miss 24 Carrot and Lashaunda Lashes, also known as Rhys Burnett and Jason Delph.

Rhys, aka Miss 24 Carrot, said: “For me to be able to go somewhere and make people forget about the crap week they have had and have a laugh is fantastic.

“I like going to places where they don't usually have drag.

“I do become a different person and people absolutely love it and embrace it.”

By day Rhys, from Norwich, works full time in the insurance industry and performing in drag has provided a confidence boost.

He earns ’pocket money’ which has helped fund £7,000 worth of wigs, make up and sparkly dresses.

Rhys emphasises that the show is open to all - the pair will be hosting an 80th birthday party later in the year in drag.

It is also worth noting it is ‘not for the easily offended’ with past prizes including a 10 inch sex toy - ordered from Amazon and, luckily for the winner, came with an instruction manual.

He said: ‘My forte is banter, insults and comedy.

“It is reliant on the audience taking part.

“It is about the quick wit and back and forth you can have with people.”

Rhys has performed in drag for two years since binge watching Ru Paul’s Drag Race during lockdown. After wearing an orange dress and a green wig the expensive sounding Miss 24 Carrot was born.

He said: “I have been performing semi-professionally for the last year.

“When I first went out for a night dressed in drag I was a little apprehensive.

“I got some cheap old makeup, dress and wig and after entering a competition in Norwich I was asked if I would host a night and it went down so well and took off from then.”

The performer has now grown in confidence, sometimes hosting events in front of more than 200 people.

His employers in the ‘day’ job are supportive of the drag queen nights and helped Rhys gain confidence in his professional role as an insurance account manager.

He said: “ The company I work for is fantastic with inclusivity.

“Being in a professional job, I never hold back and I will tell someone if I ask them.

“As long as it doesn't affect my day job it is fine.”

Rhys has been influenced by renowned performers Dame Edna Everage and Lily Savage aka Barry Humphries and Paul O’Grady.

He said: “I remember being on holiday with my parents seeing the drags queen and being so amazed.

“Being a drag queen and being trans is a different thing.

“I don’t like to blur the lines.”

Performing in drag has helped Rhys deliver presentations at work from the experience of being on stage and speaking in front of people

He said: “Before I started doing drag I suffered with social anxiety - and it has cured.

“In the job that I do I was expected to deliver a presentation to a room of 60 people.

“Going back four years it would have filled me with dread- now - I have performed in front of 260 people on stage.”

Some venues that the pair have performed at have received hate mail and therefore the show is always advertised so people know what to expect.

Rhys said: “Drag is a difficult business - I need to be advertised so that people are comfortable.

“Whether it is trans, drag, lesbian. gay, non binary - people who don't understand just take an instant dislike to it.

“I am a man in a woman's dress which is no different to panto - and people have often said to me that they have always wanted to try drag and not had the confidence.

“So to have this opportunity to inspire people is rewarding.”

Tickets cost £15 and are available at Eventbrite by googling ‘Drag Bingo Holbeach’ or call 07903 413234.
