Gosberton residents bemoan 'pandemonium' after closure of A152 at High Street
Villagers have bemoaned the ‘pandemonium’ brought on by the closure of a busy road.
A section of High Street in Gosberton, which is part of the A152, has been closed throughout the past week, and is due to reopen tomorrow (Friday).
The closure has led to frustration from residents due to the high volume of drivers being forced to take diversions through the village.
Many are travelling down Belchmire Lane before rejoining the A152 via Wargate Way, which has led to Michael Ellis (57) - who lives on the latter - reporting some of the worst traffic he has witnessed since moving to Gosberton nine years ago.
“It is like the M25 out here. There’s supposed to be speed restriction signs - nobody’s sticking to them,” he said.
“It’s been absolute pandemonium over the weekend - I thought it might quieten down. Monday was pretty bad as well, but Tuesday seems worse.”
Mr Ellis admitted that with High Street closed, there aren’t a wealth of alternative diversion routes on offer.
However, he has been left angered by drivers - particularly those in HGVs - who ignore designated routes in place, choosing to drive down narrow lanes instead.
He also raised worries over disabled residents at Cawood Lane who have been unable to walk into the village centre - while at least one car has reportedly had a wing mirror damaged by a passing vehicle.
Mr Ellis added: “There’s just nothing set in place. They expect people just to find their own way. It’s all good putting a sign saying ‘unsuitable for HGVs’, but that doesn’t stop them coming down.”
John Clark, chairman of Gosberton Parish Council, agreed that little can be done when roadworks are required.
However, he added: “I’m surprised they couldn’t put traffic lights up and have it as one lane, and then the other side do half and half.
“For us on the farm it’s been a nightmare - we’re having to go round the back roads with big equipment, and it’s not very good when you meet somebody.”
