Roman Road in Moulton Chapel to reopen for one week
An important village road which has been closed for weeks will reopen later - but is due to shut again in the coming days.
People living in Moulton Chapel have been facing a long detour - which takes in Whaplode St Catherine - in order to get to places like the village school as Roman Road has been shut since March 17.
Roman Road has been closed while Esp Electricity hooks up the controversial Chapel Gate development - once home to ‘ski slope’ entrance road - for developer Allison Homes.
The developer says the road is going to open later today (Friday, March 28) but will be closing again on Friday, April 4.
A spokesperson for Allison Homes said: “We understand residents’ concerns and remain grateful to them for their patience as work progresses on our Chapel Gate development.
“Lincolnshire County Council approved for our permit to install the development’s electricity supply to be extended, to allow full completion of the works. In order to minimise disruption, Roman Road will be re-opened today (March 28) and will remain open until April 4.
“From April 4 the road will be closed and re-open no later than April 14.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and will continue to engage in an open line of communication with residents.”
The official detour diverts motorists along Fen Gate and Broad Water Lane then along Hurdletree Bank, in Whaplode St Catherine. It then takes in Jekil’s Bank and then Eaugate Road to get to Moulton Chapel Primary School.
