Fleet and south Gedney to see Santa on a Sunday sweet ride

Families in Fleet and south Gedney are being urged to stand by their doors as Santa and Mrs Claus pass through both villages this Sunday, December 13.

Faith and Colin Pearson, of the Unicorn Diner in Long Sutton, have asked Santa and his wife to ride a Harley-Davidson motorbike through the village as their elves give out sweets and chocolates to cheer up children during the coronavirus pandemic.

Santa's sweet run starts from Old Main Road, Fleet Hargate, at about 4pm on Sunday and then makes it was along Eastgate, Churchgate, Charles Road and Hocklesgate before heading to the southern part of Gedney.

Faith said: "We've all had a difficult year so we thought it would be exciting for Santa to get on a Harley-Davidson, while his elves go round Fleet and part of Gedney, giving out sweets and selection boxes.

"But we're asking parents not to come out with the children and, instead, to stand at their doors so Santa can wave at them.

"The elves will then leave the sweets and chocolates on the edge of the footpath for the children to collect when Santa has moved on.

"We're not collecting any donations whatsoever, it's just about giving and we want as many people as possible to know that it's happening."

Faith and Colin are working with the Fleet Residents Events Committee to put on the Santa run, with the committee having organised a Christmas raffle to be drawn this Saturday.

More than 70 prizes have been donated by villagers and businesses in Fleet, as well as Holbeach, with proceeds from the raffle going towards the parish church.

Committee member Eileen Gilliatt said: "The whole community has come together to put smiles on faces this Christmas."

. Santa's sweet run will also be taking place in Long Sutton on Sunday, December 20, from 4pm.

Meanwhile, the Unicorn Diner team will be delivering freshly cooked Christmas dinners to elderly, lonely and vulnerable people on December 25.

If you know of anyone who would like a meal to be delivered to them, call Faith on 07854 929135.
