Students reword Stevie Wonder ‘Happy Birthday’ song to celebrate All Saints Church, Holbeach

School children adapted the words of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Happy Birthday’ at a concert to celebrate a church’s 800th anniversary.

Students from William Stukeley Church of England Primary school, Holbeach Primary Academy, Holbeach Bank Primary school and United Academy Holbeach took part in an evening of music in celebration of All Saints Church in Holbeach.

The concert is part of a year long programme of celebratory events at the church which has played an important part in the community ever since the Bishop of Lincoln, Hugh of Wells, licensed the first priest in 1225.

The Rev Sherine Angus, priest in charge, said: “We hosted a schools music concert to engage and connect with the community.

“Each school brought a choir and musicians with some pieces sung by individual schools and some performed together.

“It was a wonderful evening of music, ending with a rendition of Stevie Wonder's ‘Happy Birthday All Saints’ with specially adapted words.”

Many parents attended the evening - put together by director of music Kim Biggs - to watch their children’s performances.

In February The Rt Rev Nicholas, Bishop of Grantham, hosted a special Candlemass service to mark the significant occasion for the church’s history.

Events will continue throughout the year including music, art, crafts, theatre productions and school projects to encourage more people to visit the historic building.
