Bourne Academy opens new £250,000 PE changing room facility to pupils
A new £250,000 changing room facility has opens to students.
The facility at Bourne Academy was officially opened by head of the school, Matt Sammy, director of sport and physical education, Ged Coles, and head of boys PE, Matt Leonard, as well as Year 10 pupils, Ted Ash and Daisy Hay.
The modern changing facilities are an investment made by the school to make participating in sports more comfortable for pupils.
There are two separate changing areas in the facility, which also has underfloor heating and LED lights operated by a motion sensor.
As the facility is located over two floors, there is now more space for students and travelling teams from other schools to keep their clothes and personal belongings clean and safe.
Daisy Hay and Ted Ash were the first students to have a look inside the new changing rooms, and both will be competing in the National Cross-Country Championships in Kent on Saturday (March 19).
Ted said: "I am pleased with how warm it is, which will be greatly appreciated after the cold football matches in the winter."
Daisy added: "The rooms are so much bigger giving us a lot more space to get changed."
The new facility is conveniently located to allow pupils easy access to grass pitches, the outdoor artificial pitch and sports hall, and thanks to ramps leading up to the building it is fully accessible to all pupils.
Mr Sammy said: "I am delighted to announce the brand-new changing rooms officially open.
"We are privileged to have a wide range of excellent resources at Bourne Academy; however, this new addition will provide our students with an outstanding facility which will be well utilised for both PE lessons, as well as the extensive extra-curricular provision.
"We are all incredibly excited to have this exceptional new building and I am confident that our students will reap the benefits of the underfloor heating in those cold winter months."
