Spalding, Bourne and Donington schools taking proactive steps to cope with energy costs
Schools are coming up with creative ways to fight rising costs.
Staff at South Lincolnshire Academies Trust, which runs Spalding Academy, Bourne Academy and Donington’s Cowley Academy, are attempting to be ‘proactive’ in making improvements to be more energy efficient.
A spokesperson said: “We have recently invested in new roofing and replaced windows to reduce heating loss. New LED lighting and automatic sensors have been installed to make use of technology.
“We have even ensured that computers automatically switch off at 6pm every day so they are not left on stand-by.
“These changes in the facilities and infrastructure along with being part of an energy buying framework have reduced the impact of increased energy costs.
“As will all schools, we welcome any additional help for businesses that will be announced by the Government this week.”
Schools in South Holland are also set to benefit from Business Secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg’s new Energy Bill Relief Scheme, which was announced last Wednesday.
It will provide a discount on wholesale gas and electricity prices for the public sector.
