Holbeach pupils celebrate top garden award

Holbeach Primary Academy pupils have been celebrating after they scooped a top East Midlands in Bloom (EMiB) for their pond garden.

The academy came top out of 13 schools entering the Best School Ornamental Garden category after pupils, staff and parents worked together in creating a wildlife pond area.

Youngsters from the school who worked on the project at weekends have been proudly showing off their framed certificate.

It was just one of a number of EMiB awards given to Holbeach.

School site manager Darren Fidler said the school won bronze last year but asked EMiB judges what more they could do to boost their outdoor learning curriculum.

He said: "One of the things we looked at was bringing parents and the community into the school, so this year we ran a parent-led project called 'Project Pond Life' for which funds were raised to produce an outdoor wildlife space.

"We have ducks and chickens that always have access to the pond and it's something that we really enjoy."
